A response to Debra Saunders and legalizing drugs

Wow, Debra... this is a deeply disappointing position you hold, the legalization of drugs. You trotted out that old Liberal horse of citing one tragic flaw in the law (Clarence Aaron) to tear down the whole thing.

The answer to disparity in the sentencing is not to legalize drugs. It is to ratchet up all drug offenses so they are equally tough. As for a white cocaine user getting a lighter sentence than a black crack user, I agree, that is not fair. Stiffen the sentence for cocaine use. Stiffen them all, including marijuana.

There is enough medical evidence to illustrate how drugs destroy even more lives than alcohol. The answer is not lighter setnences. The answer is peer pressure, parental pressure, pastoral pressure, and prosecutorial pressure. Drugs will destroy our youth, utterly, if permitted to be legalized.
